Screen To Stage: “The Wannabes” Step Out Of The TV With New Group, Savvy

Singers want to be actors and actors want to be singers--such is the way of the celebrity world. The kids from new teen-pop group Savvy too have their own TV show as a jumping-off point. Not too shabby. Aptly named "The Wannabes," the show is launching its stars into the real-time music industry realm after just one season.

I know what you're thinking: High School Musical. But as a show, "The Wannabes" doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to music. In fact, the sitcom's plot is about a classical performing arts high school where the students struggle for stardom. They don't just happen to burst into a perfectly choreographed number out of nowhere--the Wannabes are in training for the real thing both on- and off-camera. Not "High School Musical," and not quite "Hannah Montana." It's like a hyper-aware, scripted show, since the eight main characters are trying to achieve star status in the real world. So meta, right? It will be interesting to see how the plot of "The Wannabes" is affected by the real-life route Savvy's career takes, and vice versa. But so far, it seems like they're off to a pretty darn good start.

Check out their song to "Dance With Me" to see if they stack up against the Mileys, Selenas, and Mirandas of the world. It's surprising catchy with its Ace Of Base-esque beat, and the video shows that the kids are indeed pretty savvy off "The Wannabes" set.
