This could be the highest profile film of Knowles' career as an actress. She has previously starred in the thriller Obsessed, the musical Dreamgirls and Cadillac Records, in which she portrayed a young Etta James.

This will be the fourth version of A Star is Born made by Hollywood. The original from 1937 starred Janet Gaynor and Frederic March, and the second, from 1954, featured Judy Garland and James Mason. The third iteration, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, was released in 1976 and is perhaps the most famous version of the film.
