According to Nielsen Soundscan, 4 has sold fewer than 700,000 copies since it was released on June 24th. The record's first two singles, "Run the World (Girls)" and "The Best Thing I Never Had," have performed modestly on the charts, failing to catch on like previous smashes "Crazy in Love," "Irreplaceable" and "Single Ladies." The success of "Love on Top," a perky old-school R&B tune that recalls classic hits by Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston, may change the direction of how the album is promoted in the near future. The singer has been at work on videos for "Party" and "Countdown," which also emphasize an overwhelmingly joyful sound with uptempo beats.
