MTV VMA’s: Video Of The Year

2010 Winner: Lady Gaga "Bad Romance"

The MTV Video Music Awards were on September 12 and we're celebrating the show's 16th year by taking a look at each year's winner for Video of the Year. See this year's winning video, "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga (which won 6 additional awards: Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, Best Dance Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Editing), as well as the rest of the year's nominees--most of which also took home a Moonman in other categories.

Nominees for Video of the Year: Eminem "Not Afraid" (Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video), Lady Gaga f/ Beyonce "Bad Romance" (Best Collaboration), 30 Seconds to Mars "Kings and Queens" (Best Rock Video), Florence and the Machine "Dog Days Are Over" (Best Art Direction), and B.o.B. f/ Hayley Williams "Airplanes."

 


2009 Winner: Beyonce "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

In 2009, Beyonce won Video of the Year for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)," beating out Eminem's "We Made You," Lady GaGa's "Poker Face," Britney Spears' "Womanizer" and Kanye West's "Love Lockdown." The video also won two other awards for Best Choreography and Best Editing and was nominated for six other awards including Best Female Video, which one Video of the Year contender famously believed should have also gone to Beyonce.



2008 Winner: Britney Spears "Piece Of Me"

Nominees: Chris Brown's "Forever," Jonas Brothers' "Burnin' Up," Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" and The Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go."



2007 Winner: Rihanna f/ Jay-Z "Umbrella"

Nominees: Beyonce's "Irreplaceable," Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around…/…Comes Around," Kanye West's "Stronger" and Amy Winehouse's "Rehab."



2006 Winner: Panic! At The Disco "I Write Sins Not Tragedies"

Nominees: Christina Aguilera "Ain't No Other Man," Madonna "Hung Up," Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California," and Shakira "Hips Don't Lie" featuring Wyclef Jean.



2005 Winner: Green Day "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"

Nominees: Coldplay "Speed of Sound," Snoop Dogg "Drop It Like It's Hot" featuring Pharrell, Gwen Stefani "Hollaback Girl" and Kanye West "Jesus Walks."



2004 Winner: OutKast "Hey Ya!"

Nominees: D12 "My Band," Jay-Z "99 Problems," Britney Spears "Toxic," and Usher featuring Ludacris & Lil Jon "Yeah!"



2003 Winner: Missy Elliott "Work It"

Nominees: 50 Cent "In da Club," Johnny Cash's cover "Hurt," Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River."



2002 Winner: Eminem "Without Me"

Nominees: Linkin Park "In The End," 'N Sync "Gone," Nas "One Mic," P.O.D. "Alive," and The White Stripes "Fell in Love with a Girl."



2001 Winner: Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya & Pink "Lady Marmalade"

Nominees: Missy Elliott "Get Ur Freak On," Eminem "Stan," Fatboy Slim "Weapon of Choice," Janet Jackson "All For You" and U2 "Beautiful Day."



2000 Winner: Eminem "The Real Slim Shady"

Nominees: Blink-182 "All The Small Things," D'Angelo "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," 'N Sync "Bye Bye Bye," and Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication."



1999 Winner: Lauryn Hill "Doo Wop (That Thing)"

Nominees: Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way," Korn "Freak on a Leash," Ricky Martin "Livin' la Vida Loca" and Will Smith "Wild Wild West" featuring Dru Hill and Kool Moe Dee.



1998 Winner: Madonna "Ray Of Light"

Nominees: Brandy and Monica "The Boy Is Mine," Puff Daddy and the Family "It's All About the Benjamins (Rock Remix)," Will Smith "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It," and The Verve "Bitter Sweet Symphony."



1997 Winner: Jamiroquai "Virtual Insanity"

1996 Winner: Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight"
