Irish Solo Artists

I have done a lot of playlists over the years in celebration of Saint Patrick's Day -- Irish Drinking Songs, Bands From Ireland, Traditional Irish Classics, et cetera, and so on. This year I was pondering what I could do to celebrate the Irish this year -- something that I haven't already done. After running some Irish musicians through my head I decided to do a list of Irish solo artists. Mainly because there is a good selection of some truly great ones. To make this list the artist had to be born in Ireland, not just of Irish decent, they had to be known for music outside of traditional Irish stuff, and they had to be better known as a solo artist, as opposed to a member of a band. So by this criteria Bono does not make the list since U2 are more well known, while Bob Geldof makes the list because he's more well known than his band The Boomtown Rats.

This includes 10 of my favorites, who would you add?

1. And It Stoned Me - Van Morrison

2. $6,000,000 Loser - Bob Geldof

3. The Blower's Daughter - Damien Rice

4. Hold Tight - Mark Geary

5. Lille - Lisa Hannigan

6. Mandinka - Sinead O'Connor
