Offers Advice To 'Popstars 2' Hopefuls

Yahoo! Music, Oct 19, 2001 6:00 pm PDT
(10/19/01, 6 p.m. ET) --Popstars, now called Popstars 2, has returned for a second season on the WB network. The reality-television series, which documents the creation of a pop band, spawned the popular female group Eden's Crush last year. The group's debut album, Popstars, shipped gold this spring, and its single "Get Over Yourself" became the biggest-selling debut single ever for a new female group.

This season's Popstars 2 judges Jaymes Foster-Levy, the executive vice president of A&R for 143 Records (the Corrs, Eden's Crush); choreographer Tony Michaels (Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson); and producer Brad "Rip Rock" Daymond (Michael Jackson, *NSYNC) had their hands full auditioning both men and women for the show. Thousands of 18-to-25-year-olds from across the country auditioned for the chance to be part of the next big pop group, but only a handful of hopefuls will be chosen for the ride from obscurity to celebrity.

LAUNCH asked Eden's Crush singer Ivette Sosa if she could offer any advice to the new set of Popstars wannabes. "Be thankful," she said, "to be there, to audition, and having the chance to sing. And if it doesn't work out, don't stop, keep going, keep singing, follow your dreams. Things happen for a reason, and if it doesn't happen at this time, it will happen later."

Sosa added that the key to maintaining a successful pop group is communication. "I guess if there's one thing that we did," she said, "which I think we'll continue to do as a group, would be to take things one day at a time and to really keep communication open. Like, to keep that constantly going, talk about everything, make sure you're on the same page, 'cause there's going to be a lot of decisions that you're going to have to make as a group."

Popstars 2 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on the WB. For more information about Popstars 2, visit popstarsusa.com.
