Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Hooks Up With Phil Collins In Switzerland

(2/14/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Bone Thugs-N-Harmony recently returned from Switzerland, where the group shot the video for its latest single, "Home." The song features a sample of Phil Collins's hit, "Take Me Home," and the group was able to get the superstar to appear in the video.

Group member Krayzie Bone shared what it was like to work with Collins. "We went out to Switzerland, you know what I'm sayin', to shoot the new video. Phil Collins was down, you know what I'm sayin'? Actually we had to go out there, you know what I'm sayin, because there was no other way that we could do it if we didn't go out there, so we had to go out there to Switzerland and, man, put it down. Phil was real cool, man--he was patient, he was out there all day with us. It was cold as hell, you know what I'm sayin'? He was real patient. He gave us that time."

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony latest album, 2002's Thug World Order, has been a slow burn. The group was unable to release a video for the lead single, "Get Up & Get It" featuring 3LW, because 3LW lost a member and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony experienced internal turmoil with group member Bizzy Bone, who was eventually asked to leave the group.

Layzie Bone shared that it wasn't the group's idea to put 3LW on "Get Up & Get It." "3LW was put on the song, really, without Bone Thugs-N-Harmony permission," Layzie Bone said. "It was something Ruthless was doing to kiss ass with Sony, trying to do good and get in with them. We never really got to see the girls or meet them or nothing like that. Felecia from Mo Thugs was actually the original member that really laid the vocals on there and did all that, so they went and put them on. We went through a big thing. We argued, argued, argued, like, 'Don't do it--it ain't gonna be right.' Nobody listened to us."

In addition to the issues with 3LW, group member Bizzy Bone--who in the past had been known not to show up for promotional events--began to further drift away from his groupmates. Layzie Bone summed up the situation. "They (3LW) broke up, dude (Bizzy Bone) start acting up again, and it's, like, 'We told y'all,'" Layzie Bone said. "So therefore we didn't get a video to the song because of 3LW breaking up, and that was not our choice to put them on the song. And then we had our internal problems, which we always do when it comes time to promote and market our albums."
