Papa Roach's Shaddix No Longer A 'Dick'

(5/15/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Papa Roach's migration from rap-metal to a more straightforward rock approach on its next album, lovehatetragedy, isn't the only change for the group. Its lead singer now goes by his real name, Jacoby Shaddix, instead of the nickname that he used during the band's rise to fame--Coby Dick.
Shaddix tells LAUNCH that his recent fatherhood played into the decision, as did the thematic nature of the upcoming album. "In essence I really expose myself with this music, and it's like, if I go by a fake name and I'm really being, like, brutally honest with what I'm singing about, it's like I might as well be known as myself, also, you know?
Shaddix says that a fun by-product of the change is fielding questions from the media. "It's kinda funny 'cause I got all these goofy-ass answers for it now too so it's kinda like, you know, when people ask me I'm just, like, 'Oh yeah, I'm the artist formerly known as Dick," he quips.
Papa Roach's lovehatetragedy arrives June 18 from DreamWorks Records.
