Marilyn Manson Fan Guilty Of Murder

16-year-old Marilyn Manson fan Luke Mitchell was found guilty on Friday (January 21) of the murder of 14-year-old Jodi Jones in the High Court of Edinburgh, Scotland, according to the BBC. Judge Lord Nimmo Smith told Mitchell in the courtroom that he was "truly wicked" for committing the murder in June of 2003. Original paintings by Manson, depicting the mutilated body of a young woman, were used as evidence in Mitchell's trial, with prosecutors suggesting that Mitchell was inspired by them to kill Jones.

The Manson paintings, which were based on the notorious "Black Dahlia" killing of Elizabeth Short in 1947, were part of the singer's Golden Age Of Grotesque exhibit, which he displayed in 2003. They mostly show Short's body in various stages of mutilation.

Excerpts from the bonus DVD included in Marilyn Manson's 2003 album, the Golden Age Of Grotesque, were also played during the trial in December. Mitchell says he bought the DVD two days after Jones' body was found.

After the verdict was announced, Judge Smith said he could not understand why Mitchell committed the "grotesque" crime, saying, "It was a truly evil murder and one of the most appalling crimes that any of us can remember."

Mitchell denied killing Jones and showed no emotion in court when the verdict was read. He will be sentenced in three weeks and faces life in prison. The 42-day trial was the longest of a single accused person in Scottish legal history.
