50 Cent and The Game held a press conference at the Schomburg Center For Research In Black Culture in Harlem Wednesday (March 8) to announce that they have put their differences behind them, although the rappers barely made eye contact, and their body language suggested that there was still a lot of tension between them.
During the press conference, 50 Cent read from a prepared statement, "In the shadow of the untimely death of Biggie, today marks the anniversary of his death, we're here today to show that people can rise above even the most difficult circumstances." "Together we can put negativity behind us," 50 continued. "A lot of people don't want to see it happen, but we're responding to the two most important groups, that's ourselves and our fans…Overall, I feel like this is an opportunity for people to see us make peace."
50 Cent then introduced The Game, who said, "I came a long way to be here today. On behalf of myself and 50, I want to say that we're making a statement that is a lot louder than the sound of just two voices. We showing that you can control your destiny. Not only your destiny, but your future. I'm here in the stand that I'ma control mine. Not only am I going to control mine, but I'ma do it in a productive and a positive way."
He added: "I just want to apologize on behalf of myself 50 Cent and to the fans."
Both rappers also made sizeable contributions to the Boys Choir Of Harlem, totaling over $250,000, and they both vowed to make sizeable contributions to the Compton Unified School District's Music Program.
The event was initially only slated to be the announcement of the formation of 50 Cent's new non-profit organization, The G-Unity Foundation. But following the shooting on February 28 at New York City radio station WQHT-FM which left a member of The Game's entourage wounded, the tension between the two former friends was mounting.
The shooting occurred as The Game attempted to enter the radio station to confront 50 Cent, who was on air explaining that he had kicked the rapper out of his G-Unit crew because The Game wasn't loyal.
