Ron Wood Jams With Slash At Hollywood Club

(10/31/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- A second Rolling Stones guitarist made a surprise club appearance in Southern California this week. Ron Wood showed up to play with Slash at the Ivar club in Hollywood on Wednesday (October 30), following Keith Richards's drop-in with Stones backing singers Bernard Fowler and Blondie Chaplin in Los Angeles on Monday (October 28).
Wood greeted Slash backstage, posing for photographers and socializing with the former Guns N' Roses lead guitarist, and then came out during the encore for the GNR hit "Paradise City."
Slash's repertoire during the evening was largely composed of cover songs by the Stones, Black Sabbath, Queen, Led Zeppelin, and other classic rock artists.
It's not the first time the two have played together--most recently, Slash joined Wood onstage at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in the U.K. in December while Wood was playing a solo show.
Slash has known Wood since he was 13 years old--Slash's mother used to make stage costumes for Mick Jagger and other members of the Stones. A portrait of Slash, painted by Wood, can be seen on Wood's website, ronniewood.com, which features the Rolling Stones guitarist's artwork.
The Rolling Stones next play Saturday (November 2) at Edison International Field in Anaheim, California.
