(10/16/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Cyndi Thomson has simply walked away from the music business, asking to be released from her recording contract from Capitol Records. With a gold album and a Number One song ("What I Really Meant To Say") to her credit, Thomson has talked with LAUNCH extensively about her upcoming sophomore project for Capitol Records. But that project will never be, as Thomson has stated in a surprising letter to her record label and fans that she has decided to walk away from her recording career, calling it "overwhelming."
"I love music; I love the way it makes me feel, but the timing is right for me to walk away from being a recording artist," writes Thomson in her letter. "My plans are to continue writing music and creating music. Respecting music is of the utmost importance to me--as it is one of God's gifts."
Thomson, who celebrates her 26th birthday on Saturday (October 19), released a total of three singles to country radio, the first being her biggest hit ("What I Really Meant To Say") and her last, called "I'm Gone," peaking at Number 31 this summer on Billboard's Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart.
In May, the singer married musician Daniel Goodman and settled down in Franklin, Tennessee. In past interviews, Thomson has often talked about her dreams to have a "normal life" and begin a family.
