(7/1/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Madonna may have abandoned her mid-'80s "Material Girl" persona years ago, but she is still very interested in money, especially a certain $2 million. On Tuesday (June 29), she filed a breach-of-contract and malpractice lawsuit against her former accountant and business management firm. In the complaint, which was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Madonna accuses the management firm of Padell, Nadell, Fine, Weinberger & Co. of mishandling her 1992 taxes. Accountant David Levin was also named in the suit. The suit centers on Madonna's place of residence in 1992. The firm claimed Madonna's primary residence was in Los Angeles, but New York officials said she was a resident of that city and billed her for $2 million in back taxes, which the singer paid. Madonna now wants the firm, which she fired in 1996, to foot the bill for the $2 million. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, according to Reuters.
