Mandy Moore Thrilled To Take Part In 'Women Rock!'

Yahoo! Music, Oct 23, 2003 5:00 pm PDT
(10/23/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- Dolly Parton, breast-cancer survivor Anastacia, and Alison Krauss & Union Station are just a few of the performers on the fourth annual Women Rock! Songs From The Movies breast cancer awareness benefit, which airs Thursday (October 23) at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Lifetime Television Network. Celine Dion wasn't at the taping of the special, but contributes a performance. Other performers include, Kenny Loggins, who is the first male headliner in the brief history of the event, and Debbie Reynolds, Bonnie Raitt, Ann Wilson of Heart, and Mya. The special is an awareness and fundraising event benefiting the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations and the National Breast Cancer Coalition.

The two-hour show was taped on September 30 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Singer Mandy Moore hosts and also performs, and at the age of 19 she's the youngest artist on the bill. Moore told LAUNCH that she was in awe of the talent that participated in the event. "It was such an amazing project to be associated with," Moore said. "And the caliber and the credibility of the people that I was working with. I mean my jaw was on the floor the whole day of rehearsals--the whole evening that we taped the show."

Moore added that the highlight for her was singing a duet with Debbie Reynolds, but the event as a whole was a bit surreal. "I was kind of in a dream," Moore said. "I'm on stage with Dolly Parton and Bonnie Raitt, who are huge, huge, huge idols of mine--I love them. And you know working with a bunch of other great artists--Anastacia, Kenny Loggins, and Mya, you know just really, really uber talented people."

Actress Jessica Alba, Katey Sagal, *NSYNC singer Lance Bass, Lisa Rinna, and cancer survivor Sharon Osbourne are among the presenters that appear on the program.
