Beanie Sigel Sentenced for Drug Possession

Rapper Beanie Sigel has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing Percocet, receiving a six to 23 month sentence at the county prison in Concord, Pennsylvania, the Deleware County Daily Times reports.

Siegel – real name Dwight Grant – has been in jail since he was arrested on August 29th, after state solice pulled over a car being driven by co-defendant Gerald Andrews, who was seen swerving over dividing lines on I-95. A search revealed several prescription pill bottles in Andrews' pockets as well as a small amount of marijuana.

Sigel, who was asleep in the passenger seat at the time of the stop, was also patted down when police found a bottle of codeine syrup, various pills hidden in a cigarette pack and about $4,500 in cash (Sigel claimed at his arraignment that he had won the money at a casino). A loaded .38-caliber handgun was also found in the car; both Sigel and Andrews are convicted felons and cannot legally posses firearms.

Andrews also plead guilty to the gun charge and received a 30 to 60 month sentence at a state correctional facility. While his lawyer did not make a comment during the hearing, Sigel's attorney, Carson Morris, said: "Mr. Grant has been a successful entertainer and musician in the Philadelphia community for decades. Obviously, he’s had an incredible amount of success and opportunity in his life. He's also made some mistakes, which have ended up putting him in custody. He's ready to go ahead and put that behind him and move on with is life."

Due to an agreement between Sigel's attorneys and Assistant District Attorney Lindsay McDonald, the rapper's drug possession charge will run concurrently with a two-year federal sentence for tax evasion he was set to begin shortly after his most recent arrest.
