Bobby Brown Sentenced to 55 Days in Jail on DUI Charge

Bobby Brown was sentenced to 55 days in jail yesterday after acknowledging in court that he was caught driving drunk last year near Los Angeles, Reuters reports.

Brown didn't appear in the Los Angeles courtroom, but his attorney entered a plea of no contest to charges of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. The singer was arrested last October after police said they spotted the car Brown was driving weaving between lanes. When they stopped him, they smelled alcohol and gave the singer a sobriety test, which he failed. It was his second DUI offense last year, following an arrest in March that led to a stint in rehab.

The New Edition singer must report to jail on March 20th. Brown also faces four years probation, and was ordered to install an ignition locking device on his car and to attend an alcohol counseling program.

Brown was married to Whitney Houston for 15 years before they divorced in 2007. She drowned in February 2012 in a Beverly Hills hotel from the effects of cocaine and heart disease. In a recent book, Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, blamed the depth of her daughter's addiction issues on Brown.
