Charles Bradley is a definitive late bloomer. The funk and soul singer released his first album, No Time for Dreaming, two years ago when he was 62, emerging from a string of odd jobs, including stints as a James Brown impersonator, to make it onto Rolling Stone's Top 50 Albums of 2011.
Charles Bradley: Soul of America chronicles Bradley's sudden rise, and in this clip, the singer preps his outfit for the No Time for Dreaming album release show. As Bradley irons his clothes and heads over to the gig on the subway, he reflects on his journey and his flashy threads.
No Time for Dreaming will be out on iTunes tomorrow, and on DVD on August 6th.This article originally appeared on Rolling Stone: Charles Bradley Gets Dressed for 'Soul of America'
