Country singer Deana Carter files for separation

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Court records show country singer Deana Carter has filed for legal separation from her husband of three years.

The "Strawberry Wine" singer cites irreconcilable differences for her breakup from Brandon Malone. Her filing states the couple separated in August 2011, less than two years after they were married in October 2009.

Records showed Carter filed her petition on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Carter co-wrote the song "You and Tequila," which she recorded and became a hit after it appeared on Kenny Chesney's recent album "''Hemingway's Whiskey."

Carter and Malone have no children together. Her filing indicates the couple does not have any agreement on how the couple's assets will be divided.
