James Murphy's DFA Records has teamed with the Red Bull Music Academy for a short new retrospective documentary called 12 Years of DFA: Too Old to Be New, Too New to Be Classic. The documentary features appearances from Murphy and LCD Soundsystem, the Rapture, Holy Ghost!, Yacht, the Juan MacLean and more. Comedian Marc Maron narrates the story of how the small East Village club called Plant Bar led to the birth of DFA, a musical movement and beyond.
As part of the ongoing Red Bull Music Academy events in New York, the label will host "12 Years of DFA Records," a seven-hour bash May 25th at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn, with performances by Murphy and more than 15 other acts spanning DFA's history. Murphy will also sit down for a special talk on May 27th at the NYU Skirball Center.
