Exclusive: Discovery Renews Amish Mafia For Season Two

TV's Amish craze isn't dying down yet: Discovery is ordering a second season of Amish Mafia, which performed well for the network this winter.

Discovery will air eight more hour-long episodes of the show later this year. Amish Mafia centers on a guy who calls himself "Lebanon Levi" and chronicles him and his fixer partners as they look to "protect" the Amish community in Lancaster County, Pa.

There's plenty of controversy surrounding the show and questions about its veracity (several Amish experts have dismissed the very idea of an "Amish mafia," and the show confirms that much of the action is actually re-creations). But Amish Mafia is a hit for Discovery, averaging 3.3 million viewers per episode. I

Amish Mafia was also the No. 2 cable show on Wednesdays (excluding sports) among persons and men 18-49 and 25-54, behind only Moonshiners. It was No. 1 with women 25-54.

Discovery will air the special Amish Mafia: Amish Exorcism this Sunday, March 3, at 8/7c. The two-hour event will feature Esther and John, two of Lebanon Levi's partners, as they "engage in an Amish exorcism to bring their demon-haunted brother back to the flock." Also, as Levi attempts to rebuild his crew, he's in danger of losing his main assistant, Alvin.

Amish Mafia is one of several Amish-related series burning up the cable charts, along with TLC's Breaking Amish.
