Girls: Chris O'Dowd Talks Returning For Season 2

HBO's "Girls" returns for its second season tonight and plenty of the boys will be back, including the very funny Chris O'Dowd.

The "Bridesmaids" star explained how his character, the not-very-suave Thomas-John, returns to the drama this season, still married to Jemima Kirke's hippie character, Jessa Johansson, following their Season 1 finale nuptials.

"We come back from honeymoon," he told AccessHollywood.com , following a panel for his upcoming HBO show, "Family Tree," at the Television Critics Association Winter Session 2013, late last week. "I don't know what I can say, other than, I think the relationship -- the marriage -- goes about as well as you would expect it to go."

The actor helped create one of Season 1's funniest moments, when he brought Jessa and Allison Williams' Marnie Michaels home to his pad after meeting them on a night out, only for them to flee his apartment during his hilarious rant over Thomas-John not getting any action.

"I think he tries to soften [up this season], but he probably doesn't really have a [good heart]," Chris laughed. "But everything I've seen is very, very funny. So I think it'll be good."

Chris will follow up his "Girls" guest spot by starring in "Family Tree," a new comedy from Christopher Guest ("This Is Spinal Tap" and "Best in Show") and Jim Piddock ("Lethal Weapon 2"), debuting this Spring, also on HBO.

The actor will play Tom Chadwick, 30, who loses his job and girlfriend and sets out on a quest to trace his family tree.

Asked by a reporter which of Guest's films was his favorite, Chris turned on the charm that likely won him the job.

"I've never seen any of them. You know what? I'm not a big comedy fan. Ask me anything about 'Game of Thrones,'" he said totally tongue-in-cheek, as reporters laughed. "No, I would say, when I was student, I think like a lot of people, I probably had 'Spinal Tap' on like a on a loop in the background, but never faced it. That has to be one of my favorites."
