John Mayer will return to the road with a sprawling, summer-long tour that will see him criss-cross North America and take him into South America, Billboard reports. The singer-songwriter has been absent from the stage after undergoing two rounds of surgery to repair a granuloma in his throat. At one point he was told he might never sing again.

Mayer recently made his official turn to the stage with a short set at a benefit concert in Montana, and before embarking on his trek he'll play his first full concerts in years with a pair of warm-up dates at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater in Alabama (which has already sold out) on April 25th, then a set at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest the following day.
Things really get going July 6th with a show at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mayer is set to criss-cross the States throughout summer and into the early fall, his last booked show a gig at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl on October 5th.
"For me to get back onstage and play again, it's just like, 'Oh right, this is what I'm able to do. This is what I've been able to do while I was watching a whole bunch of Westerns every night and making rice bowls with chicken,'" Mayer told Rolling Stone in a recent interview about his return. "It's been very fun to uncover it and rediscover it again."
