Lady Gaga Cancels Rest of Tour to Have Surgery

Lady Gaga will undergo surgery to repair a hip injury, forcing her to cancel the rest of her Born This Way Ball Tour. In a post on the Little Monsters fan site, a statement from promoter Live Nation says that Gaga has a labral tear of the right hip, which will require an operation "followed by strict downtime to recover." The condition affects the ring of soft tissue lining the outside rim of the hip socket.

Lady Gaga's Wildest Looks

Gaga had initially postponed four tour dates earlier this week, citing a severe inflammation of the joints known as synovitis. The singer said in a statement that she was "completely devastated and sad" about calling off a pair performances in Chicago, as well as shows in Detroit and Hamilton, Ontario. She hasn't yet spoken about the cancellations.

There were 21 dates left on the Born This Way Ball Tour, including stops in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Washington D.C. and Atlanta before it was scheduled to have wrapped up March 20th in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Refunds will be available at point of purchase starting today.

It's unclear what the surgery will mean for ARTPOP, the album Lady Gaga has been working on to follow up her 2011 release Born This Way. The producer and EDM artist Zedd, a friend Gaga's who has been collaborating on songs for the new LP, said last month that "there's still a lot of work left."
