A Los Angeles judge threw out a lawsuit against Britney Spears yesterday, citing insufficient evidence to move forward with the trial, Reuters reports. Former confidant Sam Lufti, who had also claimed to be the singer's manager, had filed the lawsuit on allegations of defamation, assault and breach of contract. "I really thought long and hard. It's the right thing to do, so I am going to do it," Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Suzanne Bruguera said.
Lufti had claimed that Spears hired him to be her manager in 2007, and said that he was entitled to 15 percent of the singer's earnings during the months he said he represented her.
Bruguera also dismissed Lufti's claims of defamation against Spears' mother, Lynne Spears, for sections of her 2008 book Through The Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, in which she wrote Lufti had isolated the singer from her family. The judge also dismissed Lufti's lawsuit against Spears' father, Jamie Spears. Lufti had accused Jamie Spears of punching him in 2008 while the singer was in a Los Angeles psychiatric ward.
Lufti's lawsuit against Britney Spears herself was also thrown out. He had said he was hired by Spears as her manager after meeting her in 2007, and that he was entitled to portions of her earnings.
During previous testimony, Lufti had claimed he tried to steer Spears away from drugs and protect her from paparazzi before he lost control. He even said that Spears shaved her head in February 2007 to avoid drug testing during her child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline. Spears was hospitalized and placed under court-ordered conservatorship in 2008.
