Mandy Moore Lands Female Lead in CBS Pilot 'The Advocates'

Mandy Moore has signed on for the CBS drama pilot "The Advocates," from "The Mentalist" creator Bruno Heller.

"Saved!" star Moore will play Shannon -- who was once a take-no-prisoners assistant district attorney but becomes a victims' advocate after learning the truth about her tragic past -- and her connection to an unjustly incarcerated man, played by Benjamin McKenzie, who stars in TNT's current "Southland" -- at least for now.

(While no decisions have been made on "Southland" or its casting for another season, McKenzie is in "second position" for the pilot, meaning that "Southland" takes first priority if it's renewed.)

Heller is writing and executive producing the pilot, which comes from Warner Bros. Television.
