Taylor Swift Beats Justin Timberlake for Most-Paid in Music

Taylor Swift is back on top of Billboard’s annual Money Makers rich list. The pop sensation-country crooner beat out Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and the Rolling Stones for the coveted No. 1 spot.

Thanks to her RED tour and “Red” album sales, Swift earned an impressive $39,699,575 in the last 12 months. With an estimated $30 million in revenues, she made more money from her six-month nationwide tour than any other artist in the U.S. did with their tour.

The singer’s album sales were eighth among all of Billboard’s 2014 Money Makers, while her 10 million digital downloads ranked sixth. She also nabbed fifth place in streaming royalties.

Swift topped this list two years ago as well when she earned $35,719,902.

The 24-year-old’s closest competition was fellow country superstar Kenny Chesney, who made $32,956,240 from his album “Life on a Rock” and his No Shoes Nation tour.

Comeback kid Justin Timberlake, on the other hand, came in third on the list with $31,463,297. Timberlake toured twice this year, once with Jay Z and later solo. He released “The 20/20 Experience” in 2013.

Meanwhile, Jay Z didn’t crack the list. His wife Beyonce came in sixth, raking in $24,429,176.

Billboard uses data supplied by Nielsen SoundScan, Nielsen BDS and Billboard Boxscore to rank U.S. earnings calculated from touring, record sales, publishing royalties and revenue from streaming music and video.
