Super Bowl super fans share their stories

At a time when one young football fan was just learning about the sport of football, the San Francisco 49ers were there to shed the light. But in a sport made popular in part due to gambling, this story of a young fan falling in love is influenced by some minor betting.

At a time when one young football fan was just learning about the sport of football, the San Francisco 49ers were there to shed the light. But in a sport made popular in part due to gambling, this story of a young fan falling in love is influenced by some minor betting.

"I have been a 49ers fan since I knew what football was," Chris Pye says, recalling the exact moment when his fandom had been locked in. "It solidified when I was 10 years old when they beat the San Diego Chargers," he explains.

San Francisco finally got past the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC playoffs and Steve Young claimed his first, and only, Super Bowl championship with the help of Jerry Rice, Ricky Waters and Deion Sanders. But Pye was just focused on the final score.

"I won the pot of money at a Super Bowl party for picking the right score for the 49ers at the end of the game," Pye says. The rest was apparently history. "I have been forever faithful since."
