(8/29/00, 5 p.m. ET) - Jamming rock band Blues Traveler will embark on its first national tour of the new century this fall, according to the group's official website bluestraveler.com. Before hitting the road, however, the band plans to wrap up recording its sixth studio album, the first since 1997's Straight On Till Morning.

Unfortunately, Blues Traveler has suffered many setbacks since the release of that last album. On August 20, 1999, bassist Bobby Sheehan died of an overdose (LAUNCH, 8/20/99); earlier that summer, lead singer John Popper checked himself into a hospital complaining of chest pains, forcing the rescheduling of two John Popper Band shows (LAUNCH 7/1/99). Now, with the addition of bassist Tad Kinchla and keyboard player Ben Wilson, Blues Traveler is posed to become a road warrior once again.
