Destiny's Child, Missy Elliott, & Others Featured On 'Fighting Temptations' Soundtrack

(8/12/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Destiny's Child, Missy Elliott, Free, M.C. Lyte, Angie Stone, Faith Evans, P. Diddy, Montell Jordan, Ann Nesby, Shirley Caesar, and others are all featured on the upcoming soundtrack to the Fighting Temptations. It will be released on September 9.
The first single from the soundtrack is the title track featuring Beyonce, M.C. Lyte, Free, and Missy Elliott. Beyonce shared the theme of the song with Rolling Stone, "It talks about everyday situations women go through. It's about being attracted to this guy but having to fight the temptation. The change from the hip-hop part with the ladies rapping to the chorus is incredible. It's very loose, old school."
When LAUNCH spoke to M.C. Lyte, the rapper said that only Beyonce was in the studio when she recorded her vocals: "Well it was fantastic during the recording process of it. I actually only saw Beyonce in the studio. I didn't see Free or Missy. But during the process of shooting the video, of course I got to spend time with all of them and it was great."
M.C. Lyte added that she generally enjoys working on collaborative projects: "I just love collaborative projects anyway. It's just a really good feeling in the room because everybody wants it to succeed and you got so much good energy and people fighting for it."
The Fighting Temptations is slated to hit theaters on September 19. The film stars Beyonce, Cuba Gooding Jr., Angie Stone, and Ann Nesby. The storyline is about an advertising exec who returns to his small hometown to collect an inheritance--but can get it only on one condition--that he is able to put together a gospel choir and lead it to success at the annual Gospel Explosion competition.
