(9/1/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Squeeze fans will finally see the U.S. release of the band's late 1998 album Domino on these shores come Sept. 28. Domino is the first album to feature the longtime anchors Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook and the new lineup with Christopher Holland (keyboards/ piano/ organ), Hilaire Penda (bass), and Ashley Soan (drums). The album features 12 tracks written by Difford and Tilbrook, one of the most prolific songwriting teams to emerge from England since John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The band is planning a short U.S. tour in October in support of the release, followed by a brief November U.K. tour opening for Blondie. The band's official website (www.squeezefan.com) lists the band's official touring lineup as Tilbrook, Holland, Penda, and Soan. Difford, who was not present on some of the band's last U.S. dates, is noticeably absent from the list. He has been working with former Wet Wet Wet leader Marti Pellow, who's been recovering from heroin addiction in recent months. Difford recently told the Scottish Daily Record that they've been working on "therapeutic songs" that will probably never see the light of day. "It has been therapy for Marti. He is a good friend and we have been writing together," he told the paper. "I'd rather not go into exactly what we have been writing because it is very personal. But Marti has recovered--he is now as strong as an ox and back on form." Q magazine reports that Pellow has been invited to rejoin Wet Wet Wet, and notes that Pellow and Difford also spent some time with the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, who are working on a new album in the studio Difford co-owns with Elvis Costello. Calls to the band's management regarding Difford's absence from the touring lineup of Squeeze were not returned by press time. Here's Squeeze's U.S. tour dates:
