Rancid And Pennywise To Get Warped

(1/26/01, 6 p.m. ET) - Rancid and Pennywise are among the acts on tap for this summer's Vans Warped tour, according to sources. Although there's been no official confirmation from tour organizers, the two acts are rumored to be joining New Found Glory, the Vandals, AFI, Fenix TX, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes, Midtown, 7 Seconds, Ataris, Alien Ant Farm, H20, and Less Than Jake on the summer trek.
The Vans Warped tour, owned by LAUNCH Media, is expected to announce an official lineup soon.
Papa Roach was one of the bands that got a kick-start from last year's festival, which also featured Green Day. Papa Roach singer Coby Dick told LAUNCH before last year's tour: "Just snapping necks at shows, you know what I'm saying, just tearing it up. What we're all about is [the] live show, you know, like, that's our whole focus, and I think Warped tour's gonna give us a good chance to show that in front of lots of people," he said. "Because this is our first major tour. Before this we've been out since February, you know, clubbing it, just ourselves and hopping on a couple radio shows here and there, but constantly just out by ourselves, you know, not going out with any bigger bands. So we're stoked to be out with, like, Green Day--big, huge band, blowing it up so, just steal some fans."
Dick added that the Warped tour is "usually mostly punk bands, but it's cool because they brought us on and we're kind of a little more metal-y, a little more rock style."
Warped has a history of being ahead of the curve when it comes to picking bands. Others whose careers were elevated from appearances on the tour include Limp Bizkit, Blink-182, Eminem, No Doubt, Sugar Ray, Sublime, and Kid Rock.
