Boyzone & Spice Duet For Charity

(7/27/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - Ronan Keating of Boyzone fame and Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton of the Spice Girls performed a cover of the 1976 Elton John/ Kiki Dee hit "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" at the Wicked Women concert for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in London's Hyde Park on Saturday (July 24).

The breast cancer charity concert also featured performances by Robbie Williams, Martine McCutcheon, Lisa Stansfield, and Republica.

Keating tells LAUNCH that Boyzone hopes to be as successful in the U.S. as the Spice Girls. "I think we'd love to bring our live shows out here and start on that foot, because it's something that we've worked on for the past few years," he says. "They've really, really come around; they're fantastic--even if I do say so, they're very, very entertaining shows. That's not only coming from us, that's from reports on the shows. The critics and the cynics that come to the shows to kind of flaw us in any way they can, can actually turn around and say, 'We felt the show was flawless--it was a fantastic production; a really, really entertaining family show,' and that's what it is."

Keating's mother Marie died of breast cancer last year, prompting him to participate in this past weekend's concert and other events to raise people's awareness about breast cancer.
