(4/8/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - A gathering of old friends will turn into an historic concert when Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, Nanci Griffith, and Emmylou Harris perform at Old Friends: The Concert, May 15 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

The historic gathering is a benefit for the Interfaith Dental Clinic. The five are joining forces to give "the gift of a smile" to those who cannot afford dental care, according to the show's announcement.

The concert is appropriately titled, since the five legendary singer-songwriters are indeed "old friends." They've frequently collaborated with one another--Griffith's Other Voices, Other Rooms includes guest appearances by Harris, Clark, and Crowell, while Crowell and Clark co-wrote Clark's hit, "She's Crazy For Leavin'." However, all five have never appeared together in concert, nor are they likely to again, say concert reps.

"They have written songs together, recorded one another's compositions, recorded duets, and produced records for each other," it was noted in a statement announcing the concert. "They continue to collaborate, support, console, and applaud one another through the ups and downs of their individual careers and personal lives."

Tickets for the concert will be $28.50 and go on sale today (April 8). The Tennessee Dental Assn. will also sell $100 tickets for a post-show reception with the artists.

Features on Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris are available now on LAUNCH.com.
