(1/23/98) - The Cranberries, Melissa Etheridge and U2 have new bosses.

Island Records has named Davitt Sigerson chairman of Island Records USA and John Barbis president of Island Records USA effective immediately. The veteranexecutives take over for label founder Chris Blackwell, who quit in a huff last Fall, claiming corporate interference was ruining the record business.

Island Records' roster also includes Tracy Bonham, Dru Hill, the Isley Brothers, Local H, PJ Harvey, Tricky, Pulp and Tripping Daisy. Island also markets and distributes London Records, Mother Records, John Hughes's Supreme Records and Margaritaville Records, home of Jimmy Buffett.
