(9/7/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Guitarist Graham Coxon has left Blur, according to several reports in the U.K. Fatboy Slim told NME that Coxon and Blur frontman Damon Albarn had an argument that resulted in Coxon leaving the Britpop band.
Coxon reportedly didn't know that his bandmates had been to Morocco to record parts for the forthcoming album.
A spokesperson for the band's record label, Virgin Records, was unaware of the split and couldn't offer up any confirmation or information at press time.
Despite Coxon's departure, Blur has not broken up, and Albarn has told NME that he's got 25 songs written for the next album.
In the U.S., Blur is best known for its anthem "Song 2."
Prior to the split, both Coxon and Albarn have recorded outside of Blur. Coxon has released three solo albums under his own name, while Albarn scored a hit as a member of virtual hip-hop collective Gorillaz in 2000 and spearheaded the world music experiment Mali Music, released earlier this year.
