(7/24/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Shakira, Paulina Rubio, and Marc Anthony are among the acts nominated for the third annual Latin Grammy Awards, announced Wednesday (July 24) in Beverly Hills, California.
The crossover successes garnered one nomination each--Anthony for best salsa album for Libre, and Shakira and Rubio both in the best music video category for "Suerte" and "Yo No Soy Esa Mujer," respectively.
Superstar Madonna is linked to three nominations through her fledgling label, Maverick Musica. Those named with relationships with the year-old record company were Jorge Moreno for best new artist, Nicole for best female pop vocal album, and Jose Padilla for best pop instrumental album.
Moreno tells LAUNCH that he's pleased with having the Material Mom as his boss. "Madonna, I've only spoken to her on the phone when I was signing the contract, she was very cool, a very friendly person," he says. "Of course, I'm a big fan of hers and it's just cool that she knows my music and she personally wanted me to be on the label and she gave the green light for me to be signed. For me that's just a thrill. It's a thrill to be here, it's a thrill that Madonna even knows my name."
Carlos Vives topped all nominees with six, Celia Cruz grabbed four, and three-time nominees included Juanes, Emilio Estefan, and Alejandro Sanz.
The third annual Latin Grammy Awards take place September 18 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The show airs on CBS.
