Alien Ant Farm Cancels All Dates, Dryden Mitchell Considers The Knife

(5/31/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- Alien Ant Farm has canceled all remaining tour dates, including its appearance at this summer's Rolling Rock Town Fair and a date in September. The main reason is the uncertain status of singer Dryden Mitchell, who may have to undergo back surgery due to injuries suffered in the band's May 22 bus accident.
Mitchell has suffered a fracture of his C2 vertebra, and he was airlifted to a hospital in London May 24 where he has remained in traction and fitted with a metal halo to keep his upper body from moving.
"I'm just so grateful that my injuries aren't worse," said Mitchell in a statement on the Alien Ant Farm website. "There will be a lot of rehabilitation and physical therapy, but I'm planning on working hard so the band can get back to writing songs, and then we can get in the studio and record the new album as soon as possible."
The rest of AAF has returned to the U.S.; however, security head David Zajic is listed in critical condition. He was airlifted to a hospital in Prague shortly after the accident. Bus driver Christopher Holland was killed in the crash.
