08/01/2001 5:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Yves Erwin Salomon
(8/1/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- MC Hammer (Stanley Burrell) is set to return to the world of popular music. The rapper has officially launched WorldHit Music Group, which will act as the musical enterprise under his Hammertime Holdings Inc. umbrella. In November, Hammer will release a new album, The Autobiography Of MC Hammer, which will include appearances by several new artists currently working on forthcoming albums for WorldHit Music Group. The new artists include Pleasure, the Stooge Players, Analise, James Greer, and Chuck Get Down, represent several different genres of music, including pop, hip-hop, alternative, and R&B.
Hammer recently shared his plans in a statement: "I have been able to meet and work with artists who are not generally known in the music business. They offer a lot of talent and excitement. I intend to put them on the charts." In addition to his new album, a new movie based on the rapper, titled The MC Hammer Story, is also currently in production. MC Hammer also has plans for a DVD that will include rehearsal footage, dance instructions, and an artist's profile.
MC Hammer made millions in the early '90s with hits like "U Can't Touch This," "Turn This Mutha Out," and "Too Legit To Quit." However, he has been dogged by hip-hop purists for his crossover success throughout his career and, in 1997, he filed for bankruptcy.
