Moby Has Near Brush With Eminem

(12/16/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Last week was a rough for Moby. After getting attacked by three goons in Boston on Wednesday (December 11), he was harassed on Friday (December 13) by "heavy metal" fans, and he had a near-brush with his rival Eminem. Moby wrote about his recent tribulations in a journal entry on his website.
"Oh, come on...On Wednesday I get beaten up in Boston. On Friday, I get harassed by some heavy metal fans, and then Saturday (December14) rolls around--a flight to L.A. through turbulent, typhoon-ish weather. Then I get to the relative safety and sanctuary of my hotel and guess what? (And I kid you not)...Eminem is in my hotel shooting a music video. F--k. What are the chances?"
Moby added, "So in the interest of personal security and whatnot I've moved hotels, just to be on the safe side. Because then I find out that Eminem is having a party on the roof of said hotel after the video shoot is over, and I really don't want to encounter 20 drunk Eminem friends/well-wishers at two in the morning as I'm heading out for a stroll around the neighborhood. Call me paranoid, call me a woosie, but I'd rather err on the side of non-confrontationalism."
The techno-rocker eventually settled in. "So now I'm at a nice hotel by the ocean and getting ready to fly back to NYC for a few months of cloistered music-making."
After dropping off his suitcase, Moby chose the safe activity of disco-bowling with some friends in the area.
Eminem has parodied Moby in videos and disparaged him in songs; and the rapper disrespected Moby at the 2002 Video Music Awards while accepting awards at the podium.
