(10/15/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- Suge Knight, CEO and founder of Death Row Records, says that R&B singer Ray J is a part of the Death Row family. The young artist, who is Brandy's younger brother, released his sophomore album This Ain't A Game in June on Atlantic Records.
"Ray J (is about) to be over here," Knight told LAUNCH about the artist whose song "Wait A Minute" featuring Lil' Kim peaked at Number Eight on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. "He's over here. He's unofficially moved off Atlantic. But he's part of this camp, part of this family. He's over here working with us, and the whole nine."
After Knight was released from prison this summer, he says he fleshed out details with Ray J. However, spokespeople for Atlantic Records told LAUNCH that they had not heard any news of Ray J leaving Atlantic Records for Death Row.
In related news, Knight says that he is not planning to release any songs addressing the September 11 terrorist attacks on America. "I'm not trying to benefit off of the tragedy," Knight told LAUNCH in late September. "Anytime it's a tragedy like the terrorists that hits home. A lot of innocent people got killed. A lot of people lost their loved ones in the building, and in the plane. I just can't see myself doing a song just to benefit off of the tragedy."
Knight added that the next release from Death Row Records's new imprint Tha Row would not be released until early 2002. Tha Row roster includes J. Valentine, PB, Crooked I, Eastwood, Spider, among others.
