(3/25/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Rapper Fabolous (John Jackson) was arrested for the third time this year late on Sunday night (March 23). The rapper was arraigned and charged with criminal possession of a weapon after police discovered a loaded 9mm pistol inside the Ford van that the rapper and four others were riding in. All five men were arrested. Fabolous's bail was set at $2,500.
Fabolous was scheduled to perform at Webster Hall in downtown Manhattan on Sunday night. However, security personnel at the venue noticed a member of Fabolous's entourage placing a gun in the Ford van before passing through the metal detectors and then informed the police, who arrested the five men.
Fabolous's attorney, Albert Ebanks, said that the pistol belonged to the rapper's bodyguard, 42-year-old Roger Fenrick. Ebanks explained that since Fenrick said that he owned the gun, that should have cleared Fabolous of criminal responsibility. Ebanks told WINS-AM, "When you arrest the bodyguard, that doesn't make the papers."
Earlier this month, Fabolous had some previous gun charges dismissed without prejudice on March 5. The rapper had been arrested on the weapons-possession charges on January 16. He had been a passenger in an SUV in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn when the vehicle was pulled over for running a red light. The officers subsequently discovered two guns in the vehicle.
Fabolous was also arrested just a day earlier (January 15) in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan for driving with a suspended license. The rapper was released from custody after pleading guilty to that offense and paying a $50 fine.
