Sugar Ray's McGrath And Orgy Party With Boss

(10/18/99, 1 p.m. PDT) - At a party tailored to launch the Hugo line at the Hugo Boss flagship clothing store in Los Angeles on Thursday (Oct. 14), the celebrated set donned their finest duds and shook their groove thing while sipping Cosmopolitans, sucking down wontons and wild mushroom tartlets, and schmoozing. "Hugo Boss makes great clothes, and the best part is they give them to me for free," said Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath, while taking a whirl to show off his new slacks and collared shirt. "Plus, I never need a reason to get down in Hollywood." Along with McGrath, David Arquette, Rod Stewart, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, ex-MTV VJs Simon Rex (now on Jack & Jill) and Julie Brown, Ben Stiller, members of Dishwalla, Christian Slater, Lukas Haas, ex-No Authority frontman Josh Keaton (who just signed a solo recording deal), some of the cast from That '70s Show, and more cavorted at the Hollywood Athletic Club from 9 p.m. until the wee hours of morning. Jay Gordon of Orgy painted up his face and took time out from the studio, where he let on that the band is recording a second record. "We're halfway done with writing it. We're looking for tones and sounds currently. It will be hard to top the last one because people were so energetic and supportive about Candyass, but we'll try our best," Gordon told LAUNCH. "There is no set date, but I'm guessing it will be in stores early next year." Unfortunately, not all rockers got to the well-attended shindig before the fire marshal closed down the street and put a clamp on the entrance. And they were definitely out of luck on the goodie bag, which contained a Hugo belt bag. One such musician that was out of luck was Hole's Eric Erlandson, who was stuck behind the velvet rope for about an hour.
