(10/8/97) - Gothic 19th century poet Edgar Allen Poe is the new, unlikely honoree of a double tribute album coming out next month. Closed On Account Of Rabies features artists as diverse as Iggy Pop, Dr. John, Marianne Faithfull, Deborah Harry & the Jazz Passengers, Diamanda Galas and the late Jeff Buckley, as well as actors Gabriel Byrne and Christopher Walken, reading some of Poe's best-known works. Some of the readings include "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Black Cat," "The Masque Of The Red Death," "The Raven," "The Pit And The Pendulum" and "Murders In The Rue Morgue." Ironically, siren singer Poe, who named herself after the macabre writer, does not appear on the tribute.
