(9/18/97) - Mary Guibert, mother of the late Jeff Buckley (who died in a drowning accident this past June), issued a public statement yesterday to clarify exactly who is in charge of her son's catalog. "Anyone who has ever known Jeff or read his interviews knows that he had no desire to align himself with the Tim Buckley cult and its leaders,'" she firmly stated, referring to her son's estranged (and now deceased) singer-songwriter father. "I am aware that there are those who would have you believe that they are the 'real keepers of the Jeff Buckley flame' or claim to be 'family members.' Do not be deceived...I am the only one in charge of Jeff's music and NOBODY with the last name of Buckley has anything to do with me or the preservation of Jeff's legacy, and they never will....I've been too devastated before now to weigh in on this question--but I'm through allowing one or two misguided people to deceive you any longer..." Guibert is currently sorting through her son's most recently recorded songs, as well as live stage and radio recordings (including some outtakes that didn't make it onto the Live At Siné EP). Stay tuned for word as to when these Buckley rarities will be released.
