(1/20/99, 1 a.m. PST) - Don't be surprised if the next hip independent feature film comes accompanied by an equally hip soundtrack featuring some hot Nashville names. That's because a large contingent of Nashville musicians is headed to Park City, Utah, for the ultra-hip Sundance Film Festival this weekend. The artists are taking part in the film fest's music showcase, called Sundance Festival Music Studio. Country acts BR5-49 and the Warren Brothers and Nashville-based rockers John Hiatt and Jars Of Clay are among the artists that are booked to participate in the film festival's live music showcase, Jan. 22-26. Starbucks and VH1 will sponsor the acoustic event, which also includes the release of a CD. The purpose of the event, according to one label executive, is to introduce the music of these artists to independent filmmakers, in the hopes of getting their music placed in feature films. It's hoped some film industry movers and shakers will take a break from their schmoozing to check out some of the music. But don't pack your bags: the showcase is invitation-only. Other artists booked to perform include Lyle Lovett and Duncan Sheik. Features on BR5-49, John Hiatt, Jars Of Clay, and Duncan Sheik are available now on LAUNCH.com; a Lyle Lovett feature is on the way. -- Lisa Zhito, Nashville Got news tips, comments, or questions?
