(11/3/98, 12 p.m. PST) - Lilith Fair founder and hit singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan is in court in Vancouver battling a lawsuit filed by a musician who claims that he wrote four songs on her 1988 debut album, Touch.

Darryl Neudorf, a producer/ engineer who once played drums in Canadian rock act 54-40, claims that he co-wrote four songs on Touch--"Vox," "Steaming," "Sad Clown," and "Strange World." The album, which reached gold sales status in Canada, helped McLachlan land a recording contract in America.

While McLachlan acknowledges that Neudorf was involved in the making of Touch, she has claimed that his involvement was not important enough to give him songwriting credits.

McLachlan's attorney, Jennifer Conkie, said that Neudorf was "paid handsomely" for his work on Touch, according to Reuters.

Still, Neudorf is asking that the court recognize that he was a co-author of the songs in the hopes of collecting royalties.
