(8/25/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Newcomer Josh Kelley has landed the opening spot on the first leg of Jewel's upcoming North American tour. The tour kicks off at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center in North Charleston, South Carolina on September 19. Jewel is touring in support of her recently released album 0304, and Kelley released his debut album For The Ride Home in June.
While many rock acts tend to live on the wild side while touring, Kelley tells LAUNCH he prefers to analyze recordings of his shows during down time. "You know, after the show I don't really do a whole lot of partying," Kelley says. "I actually go in and mix new tunes. They record the show for me, they'll give me the CD and I'll go in and cut the tracks up and master them, and we'll listen to them on the way to the next gig."
Kelley has been playing gigs since the age of 13, and as he tells LAUNCH, he still has a few of those early shows on videotape. "I have videos from when I was like 13 or 14 at some shows," Kelley says. "And I had a band called Inside Blue and it was just funny, man. I had like long hair and... Oh yeah, I was an idiot. I don't know. I was playing lead guitar. I wasn't even singing. My younger brother was singing. It's funny."
Jewel's "Intuition" is at Number Seven and Kelley's "Amazing" is at Number 10 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 Chart.
