Simple Plan Says They Have No Shot Against 50 Cent At The VMA's

(8/27/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Simple Plan's upcoming plans don't include winning a moonman for best new artist in a video at the MTV Video Music Awards Thursday (August 28) at New York City's Radio City Music Hall.
The Canadian rockers will face off against some tough competition in the best new artist category, including chart-topping rapper 50 Cent and dancehall sensation Sean Paul. Drummer Chuck Comeau and guitarist Sebastian Lefebvre told LAUNCH that they expect to see 50 Cent walk away with the award.
"We're against Evanescence, All-American Rejects--our good friends from the Warped tour--and Kelly Clarkson, and 50 Cent--G-Unit--that's the guy," Comeau said. "And I betcha to 50 Cent we're gonna lose."
Lefebvre said the band members have their reasons to root for 50 Cent. "It would be great to win, but I'm kind of scared like maybe we would get shot by 50 Cent's posse," Lefebvre said.
Simple Plan kicked off the countdown to the VMA's with a performance at MTV's Blast Off Concert in New York's Central Park Tuesday night (August 26).
The 2003 will air live on MTV starting at 8 p.m. ET.
