Ashanti On Having A Mother Manager

(5/20/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- Ashanti's mother, Tina Douglas, quit her job as a software technician to become the singer's co-manager, and she travels around the country with her Grammy Award-winning daughter.
Now that Ashanti has released a new single, "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)" from her upcoming sophomore album, Chapter II, due out on July 1, the pair have been traveling to promote it.
With her mother at her side, the singer recently explained that she and her mom are more like friends than like a mother and daughter. "My mom is cool,” Ashanti said. “My mom and I--we definitely have a unique relationship. You know, we're more like friends as opposed to mother and daughter. She's real cool with all the guys. They call her 'Mom Dukes' and she knows what goes on. Sometimes she gets on my nerves but...”
Tina Douglas interjected, “Whatever!”
Ashanti continued, “What do you expect? We're human."
