(7/23/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Bowling For Soup's rockin' cover of the Britney Spears anthem "...Baby One More Time" is featured on the Freaky Friday soundtrack, due July 29. Singer Jaret Von Erich explained to LAUNCH how a punk rock band that's currently playing the Vans Warped Tour landed smack in the middle of a Disney movie soundtrack.
"Basically, the way it had gone down was they had temped in this version of Travis doing '...Baby One More Time' by Britney Spears and they were looking for a band to do a rock version of it," Von Erich said. "I think they wanted somebody that maybe 14 or 15-year-old kids can really identify with and maybe was kind of fresh in their heads right now."
Von Erich added that Bowling For Soup's version of "...Baby One More Time" is a lot different than what you might expect. "It's way unlike anything you can imagine," Von Erich added. "I mean our version of it is really, really, dark and really rock. It's not the kind of 'pop'-py stuff that we usually do."
Also featured on the soundtrack are Lillix, Simple Plan, the Donnas, Diffuser, Andrew W.K., American Hi-Fi, and Joey Ramone, among others.
Freaky Friday is a comedy about Dr. Tess Coleman (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) and her 15-year-old daughter (played by Lindsay Lohan). The pair switch bodies after opening two identical Chinese Fortune Cookies. The Walt Disney Pictures movie opens in theaters nationwide on August 6.
The film is a remake of the 1976 original starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster.
